After I met Randl at Reagan National Airport late this afternoon and we got checked into our hotel, we went out to walk the west end of the National Mall. It was a beautiful evening and there were lots of people out and about, including some Obama family members, who were outside on the south upper patio of the White House. As a consequence, we couldn't get very close to the building, but we were able to see the security guy on the roof and the many surrounding the residence. We agreed that this would not be a comfortable way to live.
We were especially touched by the Viet Nam War Memorial, as this is the war that is most familiar to us personally. The statue nearby that memorializes the women who served in this war (mainly as nurses) is particularly inviting of an emotional response.
We're looking forward to attending church tomorrow morning at the Capitol Hill Ward and then visiting some of the museums on the mall.
