After visiting Montrose, Iowa and finding the Morley Settlement marker on Thursday morning (May 27th), we headed west across Missouri across the approximate route the Saints took going east as they fled Missouri. Our first stop on our way to Kansas City was the Valley of Adam-Ondi-Ahman, where Joseph Smith said Adam and his posterity lived and where Joseph prophesied that Christ would come again. Here Lyman Wight was the first member of the Church to settle, but others soon followed, including John and Hannah Patten and James and Maria Louisa Patten Lemmon. The bottom photograph is of a rock that is referred to as "Preacher Rock" because Joseph Smith is supposed to have stood on it to preach to the Saints.
