The Battle of the Little Bighorn (more photographs)

Here are some more photographs taken at the Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument.
From the top: the memorial monument to the Indians with the Crow Indian Reservation in the distance, looking up the hill to the monument and markers for the Cavalry, a view of the mountains from the battle hill (much the same as it would have looked in 1876), the walking trail from the hilltop down to the ravine (where the Indians were camped).
I want to add that I would highly recommend this national monument as a place well worth going out of your way to visit. It isn't far from Billings, MT and is just off the interstate highway. I took a guided walking tour of the hilltop with two Native American park service rangers (one Cheyenne and one Souix). Their knowledge, insite and perspective were truly enlightening and helped me better understand this time in U.S. history. I came away from this experience with more respect for all who were involved--the cavalry men, the Indian Braves, the Indian women and children, the Indian guides and the leaders on all sides. The National Park Service has done a beautiful job of portraying what happened here without taking sides or glorifying the horror of it all.
